Martha's Path (2024)

Contact

A digital painting from an original photograph taken in 2024. Martha was a busy lady. Something always had to get done. She truly tried to do her best but it was a lot, and she couldn't seem to get her sister to help with any of the preparations. She found, however, that a new path had been prepared just for her.

The word "Martha" is translated from Greek and Aramaic and it means “the Lady” or “the Mistress” as in the feminine version of The Master. Martha lived in Bethany, which was a two mile walk east from Jerusalem. In this piece, Martha’s path is the symbolic road upon which the sister of Lazarus had to walk. Martha struggled with resentment and a caustic spirit and, even though she was rebuked by Jesus, she was still loved by Jesus. She was the woman that provided for her family and guests, including Jesus. Her service was not unappreciated, even though Jesus said her sister’s service was the wiser of the choices. Martha’s path was harder but it still took her to faith and belief. This image is relatable for all since we all have a path to walk. A journey often fraught with danger, fear, and resentments.
